SiteGround was founded by Ivo Tzenov in Bulgaria. Since 2004, this Europe-based company has vastly improved its services with several offices and data centres across the globe. I have taken their GrowBig Plan which is $9.99/mo and hosted this website smartshoppingindia.in.
There is a one-click WordPress Installation Support. It is very easy to install WordPress on a SiteGround Server. Please refer to our blog post below for step-by-step instructions.
Response Time is good on the Singapore Servers. Overall, it has an A+ Performance Speed in New Delhi at 1.2s. It is even better in Singapore at 700ms.
I have not used any External Cache Plugin. There is a Cache Plugin provided by SiteGround. I have done all the testings in their default settings.
Inbuilt Cache Manager
You get an inbuilt Cache Manager. You also get a Siteground Optimisation Plugin for WordPress. And this is a good plugin. If you use this plugin, you won’t require any External or Paid Plugin.
It is a very powerful plugin, it can do everything like minifying, video and image optimisations. You will find all the essential elements in this Plugin.
Talking about uptime, I have been using SiteGround.com for a year now and have never experienced a downtime. There has been 100% uptime since the hosting services were subscribed to last year.
So you will see good uptime in SiteGround and your website will run flawlessly round the clock. I have seen good results in Load Tests as well.
There are no HTTP failures and it has easily passed the load tests. Data Centres are in the US, UK, Netherlands and Singapore. They have added 2 new Data Centers in Germany and Australia.
Backups are 30-day off-server backups which are easy to use. There is a 1-Click Restoration Option. Inode Count at Startup is 1.5 lakh, GrowBig has 3 lakh and GoGeek has 4.45 lakh.
Customer Service is 24×7 Live Chat Support, which is technically sound and prompt in its replies. There is no support on call and Live Chat Support in my experience is good and fast.
In a few, rare scenarios, you can experience long queues. But that is a given with SiteGround’s popularity in the market.
Talking about the pricing, when you go to SiteGround, you will see options like Web Hosting, WordPress Hosting and WooCommerce Hosting.
These are the Shared Hosting Plans. Go for WordPress Hosting, as it is the best plan they have. You can host WordPress and if you require Cpanel, you would get it.
If you are planning to open an e-commerce website then go for WooCommerce Hosting. You can go to Web Hosting, but WordPress and Web Hosting are almost the same.
So the plans are StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek. The StartUp plan starts from $6.99/month and GoGeek goes up to $14.99 per month. All the 3 plans are good but for a majority of webmasters, the best plan would be GrowBig which starts at $9.99/month.
They have high renewal rates, it starts from $11.95/month which is 70% higher when compared to the initial subscription. So if it’s possible, try to buy a 3-year plan.
In the Time Period, you can select for 12/24/36 months, it will have the same discount for all these months. On renewal, you will have to pay the normal rates, you won’t get the discounted price.
Talking about the payment options, you can use International Debit and Credit Cards. Netbanking is not available.
Choosing a Data Center Location
You should select a data center that is closest to you. For example, if you operate a website in the Indian subcontinent, Singapore would be the right choice for you. As the 4 hour distance from Singapore would mean your data will arrive faster to a reader who is browsing your website.
You can claim a refund within 30 days.
If you are interested, you can buy from the link provided below. It’s my affiliate link, if you purchase through it, I will get a commission. Without you paying any extra money, it helps me write such detailed reviews and grow this website.
You have unlimited SSL for unlimited websites and free Cloudflare Option in CDN. You also get the feature of staging, it comes into play when you have to do certain testings on your website.
These testings are done at the backend copy of the websites The changes are not visible in the live website unless you finalize such changes.
If I have to change a theme, I will make a staging copy, do the changes and apply it on the website to see how it looks. I would check whether all things are working properly or not.
If changes are finalized, then I can apply them to the real website.
Migrations are not free, previously they would give it. But now they have discontinued free migrations. You will have to pay $30 per migration if you want them to migrate your website.
They have a powerful and easy-to-use plugin. You can use it to migrate your website.
Softwares have PHP 7.4, Python 3.7 Support. You won’t find the support for Perl and NodeJS.
You get Weebly Sitebuilder. It is one of the best Site builders that I have used in Shared Hosting. It’s an easy-to-use and good site builder for Shared Hosting.
You will have separate pricing for Sitebuilder, the free version has certain elements. There are 3 to 4 packages available. If you have to start through Sitebuilder then the free package would be sufficient and then you can upgrade.
In domains, you have a free temporary domain. You won’t get a primary domain for free as you get in other hostings when you take their 1-year hosting. Here if you take it for 1 year or 3 years, you don’t get any free domain. You will have to pay separately for the domain name.
Unlimited Email Accounts
You get unlimited email accounts, which are limited through a particular size. The first plan would have 2000 MB, then it would be 4000 MB and 6000 MB.
Siteground was PCI Compliant earlier, but now it isn’t.
If you don’t know what is a PCI Compliance, then you don’t need to go into it further. This is usually not provided in the Shared Hosting. Since Siteground provided it earlier, and now it doesn’t, so I have included it here.
You also get Team Collaboration Options.
They have good website security in place and there are no issues yet.
So if I talk about the positive aspects, you get good speed. It is supported by Google Cloud and has good Customer service. You get a powerful Cache Plugin. There are good backup and restore options.
You get Weebly SItebuilder Support and 1-Click WordPress Installation.
Talking about the negative aspects, the renewal rates are on the higher side. Free Migrations are not available. There is less storage space. The 1st plan has 10GB Space, the 2nd plan has 20GB Space, and the 3rd plan has 40GB Space.
It was 30GB previously but now it has been changed to 40GB. There is no free domain available.
So will I recommend it? According to me, it is one of the best Shared Hosting platforms for WordPress. It is a bit expensive. But you should consider factors like Speed, Reliability, Security, Support Backup Option, Powerful Plugins, Cache System and more.
When you combine all these factors, it is worthy of the cost. It is one of the most reliable hostings. For the last 5 years, they have been the market leaders. And they have maintained their position.
They are constantly improving their website and its services. So if I have to bet my money on Shared Hosting then it would be SiteGround.
